A savage book about the authors poverty stricken upbringing in Ireland, before he escaped to America. An horrific tale of starvation, infant mortality and Catholicism, the author injects humour and hope into what should be a devasting story. If you only saw the movie, you haven't experienced half of what is in this book. I LOVED it.
