Bekka Black

Bekka Black is the pen name American author Rebecca Cantrell used for a short pair of YA horror novels that retell classic monster stories through a modern, text-message-and-screenshot format. iDrakula (2010) reimagines Bram Stoker's Dracula as a story told entirely through texts, emails, video chats, and other digital ephemera, following teenagers who discover a mysterious ancient book is turning their friend into something monstrous. iFrankenstein (2012) applies the same all-digital format to Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, updating the story of a scientist's creation for a generation that would document the whole disaster on their phones. The two books stand apart from the historical mysteries of Cantrell's Hannah Vogel series and the tech-thriller world of her Joe Tesla novels, aimed at a younger readership and built around a screenshot-style narration gimmick that was distinctive for its moment in YA horror.
