The Horus Heresy
science fiction
Author
Ben Counter has written 2 books across 1 series. Start with The Horus Heresy.
Ben Counter is a British novelist and one of Black Library's most prolific early Warhammer 40,000 writers. A graduate in ancient history and a keen miniature painter (he has won a Golden Demon award for his work), he lives in Portsmouth, England. He is best known as the author of the Soul Drinkers series, following a Space Marine chapter that falls under suspicion of heresy, and the Grey Knights novels, alongside numerous other Horus Heresy contributions, comics and RPG supplements published across his long association with the imprint. Readers new to his work should start with the Soul Drinkers Omnibus, which collects the original trilogy and remains the most accessible entry point into his take on Space Marine politics, loyalty and corruption. His writing sits comfortably within Black Library's classic house style: fast, action-driven military science fiction that treats the Warhammer 40,000 setting's grim mythology with real seriousness. There is no television or film adaptation of his work; like most Black Library authors, his reputation is built entirely within the tie-in fiction and gaming community that has followed Warhammer 40,000 since the 1990s and 2000s.
Start with the The Horus Heresy series (first published 2006) and read it in publication order.
