Brian Andrews
Brian Andrews has written 24 books across 4 series. Start with Jack Ryan.
Brian Andrews spent his early career as a U.S. Navy officer and nuclear engineer aboard submarines before turning that technical grounding into fiction. Since teaming up with fellow veteran Jeffrey Wilson, the two have built one of military thrillers' most productive partnerships: the Tier One series, following Navy SEAL John Dempsey and the black-budget Task Force Ember through ten novels of terrorism, bioweapons and great-power conflict; the supernatural-tinged Shepherds series; and the newer Sons of Valor, following a younger generation of operators. The duo write with a level of procedural detail — breaching tactics, intelligence tradecraft, battlefield medicine — that reflects both authors' operational backgrounds rather than research alone.
Andrews and Wilson's technical authority also made them a natural choice to continue Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan franchise, where they've written Act of Defiance, Defense Protocol and Executive Power alongside their own series, and they've written standalone thrillers (The Sandbox, Four Minutes) drawing directly on their military and medical experience. New readers should start with Tier One (2016), the book that launched their partnership and remains their flagship series; the Shepherds books are the pick for readers who want the same tradecraft with a darker, stranger edge. Nearly all their work appears under the joint byline Andrews & Wilson, reflecting a collaboration close enough that the two are usually read as a single unit rather than distinguished by individual contribution.
