Camilla Läckberg is a Swedish crime novelist born in 1974 in Fällbacka, the small west-coast fishing village that became the setting and namesake of her best-known work. She trained as an economist at the University of Gothenburg and worked in that field in Stockholm before a Christmas-gift crime-writing course redirected her toward fiction; her debut, The Ice Princess (2003), introduced true-crime writer Erica Falck and police detective Patrik Hedström, whose gradually developing marriage runs alongside a new murder investigation in each of the now twelve Fällbacka novels.
Läckberg writes in the Scandinavian tradition of grounding violent crime in ordinary small-town life, using Erica's amateur research into old local secrets to complicate and often crack open Patrik's official investigation. Since 2019 she has also written the Faye's Revenge trilogy, a sharper, more overtly commercial revenge thriller about a wronged businesswoman that marked a deliberate departure from the Fällbacka books' police-procedural structure. Published in more than 60 countries and having sold upward of 30 million copies, she is one of the best-selling Swedish novelists of her generation; she continues to publish in both Swedish and English translation, and remains active as of this writing.
