Dan Abnett

Dan Abnett is a British novelist and comic writer, and among the most influential authors to work in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. His novel First and Only, launching the acclaimed Gaunt's Ghosts military science fiction series, was the very first novel published under Games Workshop's Black Library imprint, and he later wrote foundational Horus Heresy volumes including Horus Rising, the book that opened the entire 54-novel saga. Beyond Warhammer, Abnett is a major figure in comics, known for The Legion of Super-Heroes, Nova, and a long run co-creating and writing Guardians of the Galaxy for Marvel that helped shape the characters later brought to the screen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, as well as work on Doctor Who and Torchwood tie-ins and the 2000AD strips Sinister Dexter and Kingdom. A reader wanting the best introduction to his prose should start with either First and Only, for tightly plotted trench-warfare science fiction, or Horus Rising, for the point where the entire Horus Heresy saga begins.
