Ellen Guon

Ellen Guon -- who publishes and works today under the name Ellen Guon Beeman -- is an American author whose fiction career sits alongside a much longer one in video games. She left television writing in the late 1980s to join Sierra On-Line, then moved to Origin Systems, where she worked as a writer and project manager on the Wing Commander game series; over the following decades she held design and production roles at Electronic Arts, Microsoft, Warner Bros., and other studios, and has shipped work on dozens of titles. She currently teaches game design and production as a senior lecturer at DigiPen Institute of Technology, and her own description of herself -- "mom, videogame designer and producer, author, gadget geekette, Celtic fiddler" -- gives a fair sense of how she balances the fiction against everything else.

In this catalogue, Guon is credited as co-author on the first two Bedlam's Bard novels, Knight of Ghosts and Shadows (1990) and Summoned to Tourney (1992), written with Mercedes Lackey. Both introduce a young Eric Banyon as a Juilliard student whose Bardic magic pulls him into a hidden world of elves living among modern humans, before Lackey resumed the series roughly a decade later with a different co-author, Rosemary Edghill, following an older version of the same character. Guon also wrote a solo tie-in novel in the same setting, Bedlam Boyz, not co-authored with Lackey and not tracked in this catalogue.
