Gardner Dozois

Gardner Dozois (1947-2018) was an American science fiction author and, more influentially, one of the field's most important editors, serving as editor of Asimov's Science Fiction magazine from 1985 to 2004 and shaping the careers of a generation of genre writers during that tenure. He also edited the long-running annual anthology The Year's Best Science Fiction for over three decades, making him one of the most widely read curators of short-form science fiction in the genre's history, and won the Hugo Award for Best Editor a record number of times.

As a writer, Dozois published acclaimed short fiction throughout his career, including the Nebula Award-winning stories "The Peacemaker" and "Morning Child," and the novel Strangers. He was known for elegant, literary prose that stood somewhat apart from the harder-edged science fiction he often published as an editor.

Dozois collaborated with George R. R. Martin and Daniel Abraham on the science fiction novella Hunter's Run, a project the three worked on intermittently for roughly two decades before completing it for publication in 2007. Dozois also frequently co-edited anthologies with Martin, including several volumes in the Wild Cards shared-universe series. He remained active as an editor and anthologist until his death in 2018.
