Gav Thorpe

Gav Thorpe spent fourteen years as a developer at Games Workshop, rising from assistant games designer to running the Warhammer Fantasy game system, before becoming one of the founding wave of novelists at Black Library when the imprint launched in 1997. He is best known for the Path of the Eldar trilogy, a widely praised look inside Eldar (Aeldari) society and its rigid philosophical "paths," and for extensive contributions across the Horus Heresy and wider Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Fantasy lines, including work on the Last Chancers and Sundering series. A new reader interested in Warhammer 40,000's more alien factions should start with Path of the Eldar, which is often cited as one of the most thoughtful depictions of the Eldar's culture and mythology in the setting's fiction; those wanting military science fiction can start with Last Chancers instead. Thorpe's long institutional history at Games Workshop gives his lore-heavy books an authority and internal consistency that fans particularly value. He lives in Nottingham.
