J. K. Rowling is a British author who created one of the bestselling book series of all time with Harry Potter, seven novels published between 1997 and 2007 following a boy wizard from his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry through his final confrontation with the dark wizard Voldemort. The series is credited with drawing a generation of children into reading and became a global multimedia phenomenon through the eight Warner Bros. films, later expanded with the Fantastic Beasts film series and the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, co-written with Jack Thorne and John Tiffany. Since finishing the main series, Rowling has written adult fiction, including The Casual Vacancy, and a bestselling crime series — the Cormoran Strike novels — published under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. New readers should begin with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (published as Sorcerer's Stone in the US), the natural entry point for the series that made her name.
