Jeffrey Wilson

Jeffrey Wilson has written 24 books across 4 series. Start with Jack Ryan.

Jeffrey Wilson brings one of the more unusual resumes in military thriller fiction to his writing: before turning to fiction, he worked as an actor, firefighter, paramedic, jet pilot and diving instructor on his way to becoming a vascular and trauma surgeon, then spent fourteen years in the U.S. Navy, deploying multiple times as a combat surgeon attached to an East Coast-based SEAL team. That firsthand experience with both special-operations culture and battlefield medicine runs through his writing partnership with fellow veteran Brian Andrews, under the joint byline Andrews & Wilson. Together they write the Tier One series, centered on Navy SEAL John Dempsey and the covert Task Force Ember across ten novels; the supernatural-inflected Shepherds series; and Sons of Valor, following a newer generation of operators. Their insider authority on both operations and trauma medicine also led Tom Clancy's estate to bring them onto the Jack Ryan franchise, where they've written Act of Defiance, Defense Protocol and Executive Power, alongside standalone thrillers The Sandbox and Four Minutes that draw even more directly on Wilson's medical background. New readers should start with Tier One, the book that began the partnership; readers who want the medical detail turned up further will find it most concentrated in the standalones. As with most of their catalog, the two write these books as a genuine collaboration rather than a lead author with a co-writer, and are best read as a single voice.
