Jennifer Finney Boylan

Jennifer Finney Boylan is an American novelist, memoirist, and essayist best known for She's Not There: A Life in Two Genders, one of the first bestselling memoirs by a transgender author to reach a wide mainstream American readership, chronicling her gender transition and its effect on her marriage and family. A longtime professor and public commentator on transgender issues, Boylan has published widely across memoir, essays, and fiction over several decades, building a reputation for candid, often wry writing about identity, family, and reinvention. Boylan co-wrote Mad Honey with Jodi Picoult, one of only two collaborative exceptions to Picoult's otherwise entirely solo bibliography, alongside the young-adult duology Picoult co-wrote with her own daughter, Samantha van Leer. Mad Honey combines Picoult's signature courtroom-drama, multiple-perspective structure with a plot centered on a transgender teenage character, drawing directly on Boylan's own lived experience and long public engagement with trans representation in fiction.
