Mary Pope Osborne

Mary Pope Osborne is an American children's author best known for the Magic Tree House series, which follows siblings Jack and Annie as a mysterious tree house whisks them to different eras and places -- dinosaur time, ancient Egypt, the Titanic, the Amazon -- for short, fact-grounded adventures. Since the first title appeared in 1992, the series has grown into one of the most widely read early-chapter-book franchises in the world, credited by many teachers and parents with turning reluctant readers into confident ones.

Before turning to children's books, Osborne worked as a travel agent, drama teacher, and medical assistant, and traveled widely in Asia in her twenties -- experiences that fed her lifelong interest in history, folklore, and faraway settings.
