Mike Lee

Mike Lee is an American writer and former editor who worked in-house at Games Workshop's Black Library before becoming one of its regular novelists, contributing to both major Warhammer settings during the 2000s. His best-known Horus Heresy contribution is Fallen Angels, the eleventh entry in that series, which pulls back the curtain on the secretive Dark Angels Legion and the loyalties fracturing within it during the opening chapters of the galaxy-wide civil war.

On the Warhammer Fantasy side, Lee is best known for co-writing the Nagash trilogy — Nagash the Sorcerer, Nagash the Unbroken, and Nagash Immortal — with fellow Black Library author Gav Thorpe, chronicling the rise, betrayal, and undying return of the setting's most infamous necromancer. He also wrote extensively in the Vampire Counts line, including Curse of the Necrarch-adjacent narratives (Daemon's Curse, Bloodstorm, Reaper of Souls) and further short fiction across both universes.

A reader coming to his work from the Horus Heresy side should read Fallen Angels in its numbered place in the series, since it's designed to sit alongside the other Dark Angels-focused volumes rather than stand fully alone. Fantasy readers are better served starting the Nagash trilogy from its first volume. Lee's output for Black Library largely concluded some years ago, and detailed current activity is not well documented in public sources.
