Mira Grant

Mira Grant is the pen name used by American author Seanan McGuire for her horror and science fiction work, kept distinct from the urban fantasy she publishes under her own name. Writing as Grant, McGuire created the Newsflesh trilogy, beginning with Feed, a Hugo Award-nominated series set decades after a zombie pandemic has become a managed, permanent feature of society, following bloggers reporting on politics in this new reality. She followed it with the Parasitology trilogy, beginning with Parasite, which imagines a world where genetically engineered tapeworms are used as a form of medical implant, with unsettling consequences. Grant's work is known for grounding horror premises in careful scientific speculation and procedural detail, a hallmark that carries across both series. McGuire adopted the Grant pen name partly to signal the tonal shift into horror for readers, and the distinction has become a well-known feature of her prolific bibliography. She continues to publish under both names, with the Grant identity remaining specifically associated with her darker, more overtly horror-inflected science fiction output.
