Owen King

Owen King is an American novelist, the son of Stephen King and Tabitha King, who co-authored the novel Sleeping Beauties with his father, a sprawling supernatural thriller imagining a mysterious sleeping sickness that afflicts only women, who cocoon in a strange substance while the world of men left awake begins to fracture. The collaboration marked one of several instances of King family members writing together, following Owen's earlier independent fiction career. Before Sleeping Beauties, Owen King published the novel Double Feature and the short story collection We're All in This Together, establishing an independent literary voice distinct from his father's horror-focused reputation, with work often centered more on character-driven, darkly comic realism. His collaboration with his father required blending Stephen King's genre instincts with Owen's own interest in complex, ensemble-driven storytelling, resulting in a large-scale novel exploring gender and social breakdown through a fantastical premise. Owen King has continued to write independently since Sleeping Beauties, maintaining a literary career distinct from, but informed by, his family's deep connection to American popular fiction.
