Stephenie Meyer

Stephenie Meyer is an American author whose Twilight series became one of the defining cultural phenomena of young adult fiction in the 2000s. Beginning with Twilight in 2005, the series follows Bella Swan, a teenager who moves to a small Washington town and falls in love with Edward Cullen, a vampire, launching a supernatural romance saga that expanded to four main novels plus companion material and sold well over 100 million copies worldwide. The books, and the five-film movie franchise they spawned starting in 2008, made Meyer one of the most commercially successful authors of her era and helped ignite the broader young adult paranormal romance boom of the following decade. Meyer later expanded the Twilight universe with Midnight Sun, a retelling of the original novel from Edward's perspective released in 2020 after years of anticipation, and The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, a companion novella. She has also written outside the series, including the science fiction novel The Host, which was itself adapted into a 2013 film. New readers should start with Twilight to meet Bella and Edward from the beginning. Meyer remains closely associated with the franchise and continues to make occasional additions to the Twilight universe.
