Steve Kloves

Steve Kloves has written 1 book across 1 series. Start with Harry Potter.

Steve Kloves is an American screenwriter and director best known for adapting J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter novels for film. He wrote the screenplays for all but one of the eight main Harry Potter films -- every entry except Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which was written by Michael Goldenberg -- making him the primary architect of how Rowling's books were translated to screen across a decade of production, including major structural and character choices that shaped the films' identity independent of the source novels.

Before Harry Potter, Kloves wrote and directed The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989), earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay, and also wrote Wonder Boys (2000), adapted from Michael Chabon's novel. His long association with the Harry Potter franchise continued into J. K. Rowling's Wizarding World spin-off series, and he co-wrote the screenplay for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore with Rowling, later published as The Complete Screenplay.

Kloves is not a novelist in the traditional sense; his published book credits are primarily screenplay editions of films he wrote, reflecting his career as one of contemporary Hollywood's most consistently employed adaptation screenwriters within a single major franchise.
