Todd McCaffrey

Todd McCaffrey is an American author and the son of Anne McCaffrey, with whom he began co-writing novels set in the world of Dragonriders of Pern in the 2000s before taking over stewardship of the series following her death in 2011. His early Pern contributions, including Dragon's Kin and Dragon's Fire, co-written with his mother, worked to fill in periods of Pern's internal chronology that her original novels had left unexplored, expanding the depth of the series' history rather than continuing its main timeline forward. After Anne McCaffrey's death, Todd continued writing solo Pern novels, extending both the series' historical prequels and its ongoing narrative, and has worked to preserve and manage the Pern franchise's continuity and legacy across licensing, adaptations, and new fiction. He has spoken publicly about the responsibility of continuing one of science fiction's most beloved shared worlds while honoring the tone and internal logic his mother established across more than four decades of Pern fiction. Beyond his fiction writing, Todd McCaffrey has also been involved in managing the business and estate side of his mother's literary legacy, helping keep the extensive Pern catalog in print and coordinating its continuation for new generations of readers.
