Tony DiTerlizzi

Tony DiTerlizzi is an American illustrator and author best known for co-creating the Spiderwick Chronicles with writer Holly Black, a bestselling children's fantasy series about the Grace siblings who discover a hidden world of faeries and other creatures after moving into their great-great-uncle's dilapidated estate. DiTerlizzi both illustrated and co-wrote the series, and its blend of detailed, atmospheric artwork with folklore-inspired storytelling helped it become a major crossover success, later adapted into a 2008 feature film and further sequel material. Before Spiderwick, DiTerlizzi had already built a career as an illustrator, including work on Dungeons & Dragons artwork and the picture book Ted, and he later created the WondLa trilogy, a science-fantasy series for younger readers that he wrote and illustrated solo, notable for pairing traditional narrative with augmented-reality digital art elements. His work is distinguished by a strong visual sensibility rooted equally in classic children's book illustration and fantasy-art traditions. DiTerlizzi continues to write and illustrate, and remains one of the most recognized illustrator-authors working in modern children's fantasy publishing.
