William Kent Krueger

William Kent Krueger is an American novelist best known for the Cork O'Connor series, set in the fictional town of Aurora on Minnesota's Iron Lake and following a former sheriff of mixed Irish and Ojibwe heritage who works as a private investigator across cases steeped in the culture, land, and politics of the Upper Midwest and the Ojibwe community that borders it. Beginning with Iron Lake in 1998, the series is known for treating its Native American characters and themes with research and respect rather than as backdrop, and for a strong sense of place that regularly puts the northern Minnesota wilderness at the center of the plot.

Krueger held a range of jobs, including construction and freelance writing, before Iron Lake's success let him write full time, and he has famously written many of his books at the same table in a Saint Paul coffee shop each morning.
