About the Cedar Cove series

Cedar Cove is Debbie Macomber's breakout small-town saga, set in a fictional Puget Sound community where each installment is named for the street address at its center -- 16 Lighthouse Road, 204 Rosewood Lane, and so on through twelve books. Rather than following one couple, the series threads together an entire town: Municipal Court Judge Olivia Lockhart and her ex-husband, her romance-columnist mother Charlotte, her best friend Grace and Grace's troubled marriage, and dozens of neighbors, shopkeepers, and newcomers whose storylines overlap and resolve across the run. Macomber uses the numbered-address structure to signal forward motion -- readers watch relationships, businesses, and grudges evolve year over year in something close to real time.

The series became one of the defining hits of women's-fiction small-town romance in the 2000s, popular enough to be adapted into the Hallmark Channel television series Cedar Cove (2013-2015). Its combination of ensemble-cast soap-opera plotting with Macomber's warm, faith-inflected sensibility and holiday-season set pieces set a template she'd return to in Blossom Street and Rose Harbor, both of which share Cedar Cove's Pacific Northwest setting and, in Rose Harbor's case, its actual characters.

Each book stands reasonably well alone, but the pleasure of Cedar Cove is cumulative: recurring characters age, marry, divorce, and reconcile across the full twelve-book run in a way that rewards reading start to finish.

How to read this series

Read the twelve numbered books in publication order, starting with 16 Lighthouse Road -- the address-based titles are also the release sequence, and Macomber threads ongoing storylines (Olivia and Jack's relationship, Grace's search for her missing husband, the town's various weddings and reconciliations) across the whole run rather than resolving each book's cast completely before moving on. New readers can technically follow a given book's central couple without the earlier volumes, but the ensemble cast and running subplots make publication order by far the most rewarding way through the series.
