About the Gods of the Game series

Gods of the Game moves Ana Huang's brand of intense, banter-driven romance onto the pitch, following the players of a fictional English Premier League club, Blackcastle Football Club. Each book pairs a star footballer with a woman connected to his world — a ghostwriter, the coach's daughter, a nanny — and layers a forced-proximity or fake-relationship hook onto the pressure-cooker of professional sport: tabloid scrutiny, locker-room politics, and the toll of fame on ordinary intimacy. Huang keeps her signature ingredients — witty dual narration, slow-burn tension that snaps into open-door heat, and leads who are more emotionally guarded than their confidence lets on — while trading her usual boardrooms and mafia underworlds for stadiums and press tours.

The series launched with The Striker in October 2024 and became one of Huang's biggest hits yet, fueled by a devoted BookTok following and a three-film adaptation deal with Amazon MGM Studios announced in 2026. The Defender followed in October 2025, and the series concludes with The Keeper in October 2026. Each book focuses on a different couple and can be read as a standalone romance, though recurring teammates and the shared Blackcastle FC setting reward reading them in order.

How to read this series

Read in publication order: The Striker, The Defender, The Keeper. Each book is a self-contained romance with its own couple, so picking up any single title works, but earlier couples appear as supporting characters later, and the series builds a shared sense of the Blackcastle FC locker room across all three books. No prior familiarity with Huang's other series (Twisted, Kings of Sin, If Love) is needed — Gods of the Game is unconnected by character.
