The Lost Bride Trilogy is a gothic paranormal romance built around a single cursed house: a grand mansion on the coast of Maine built generations ago by Arthur Poole, where seven brides married into the family and seven brides died there, each one stripped of her wedding ring by Hester, the vengeful witch-spirit who has haunted the house ever since. Sonya MacTavish inherits the house -- and its curse -- in Inheritance, discovering both a family history she never knew she had and a supernatural threat that comes with it. The Mirror picks up directly from that cliffhanger and introduces an antique mirror that lets Sonya and the people around her glimpse fragments of the house's past, replaying how each of the seven lost brides lived, loved and died at Hester's hands. The Seven Rings brings the trilogy to its climax, as the stolen wedding rings must finally be recovered, the murdered brides honored, and Hester's hold over the house broken for good.

As with Roberts' Circle Trilogy and Bride Quartet, romance runs alongside the central plot rather than driving it alone -- here the engine is the time-slip mystery of the house's past and the escalating confrontation with its resident spirit, giving the trilogy a darker, more overtly gothic tone than most of Roberts' contemporary work.
