About the Rose Harbor series

After the death of her husband in Afghanistan, Jo Marie Rose leaves her old life behind to buy and restore a rundown bed-and-breakfast in the fictional Puget Sound town of Cedar Cove -- the same setting as Debbie Macomber's earlier Cedar Cove series -- renaming it Rose Harbor Inn. Each book follows a new pair of guests who check in carrying some unresolved grief, secret, or decision, while Jo Marie's own slow healing and eventual new relationship with a local contractor unfolds gradually in the background across the series.

Rose Harbor functions as a spiritual sequel to Cedar Cove, reusing its coastal small-town setting and even folding in familiar faces from that earlier series as supporting characters, while shifting its structural device from street addresses to Jo Marie's guests: each novel is essentially a new short story of loss and reconciliation, framed by the inn's welcoming, restorative role in a stranger's life.
