About the Shadow Grail series

Co-written by Mercedes Lackey and Rosemary Edghill, this young-adult quartet follows Loch Spartan, a teenage athlete orphaned when her parents are killed in a car accident that also strips her of her memory. She's sent to Oakhurst Academy, a boarding school that turns out to train magically gifted, mostly parentless teens for a hidden purpose the staff won't fully explain. Legacies introduces the school and its close-knit, wary students; Conspiracies, Sacrifices, and Victories dig progressively deeper into why Oakhurst really exists, what happened to the students' families, and the dangerous plan the school's leadership has for its students once their training is complete.

The series leans into boarding-school-conspiracy territory more than either author's adult fantasy work, using Loch's amnesia and the uneasy trust among the student cast to keep readers as much in the dark as the characters until the later books.

How to read this series

Publication order is the only order — this is one continuous mystery-driven story following Loch and her classmates across all four books, not a set of standalone entries. Read Legacies (2010), Conspiracies (2011), Sacrifices (2013), and Victories (2014) in that sequence. No familiarity with Lackey's or Edghill's other work is required.
