Richard Osman's second series swaps the Thursday Murder Club's retirement village for the rest of the planet. Amy Wheeler is a private security officer for the world's bestselling (and most self-absorbed) thriller novelist, Rosie D'Antonio; Steve Wheeler is Amy's mild-mannered, crossword-loving father-in-law, a retired policeman perfectly happy never leaving his English village. When a job protecting Rosie turns into a murder investigation that spans a private island, international money laundering and a body dropped from a superyacht, Amy drags Steve out of retirement and across the globe, and the pair discover they make an unexpectedly effective detective team — her field instincts and combat training against his patient, old-fashioned interviewing technique.
Where the Thursday Murder Club is cosy and village-bound, We Solve Murders is Osman's jet-setting, higher-body-count answer to the same core appeal: sharp, character-driven banter, genuine warmth between an unlikely pair of investigators, and fair-play mysteries wrapped in comedy. Rosie D'Antonio, vain and scene-stealing, quickly became a fan favourite in her own right. The series is entirely independent of the Thursday Murder Club — different cast, different world — though both now run in parallel as Osman's two flagship mystery franchises, with the second Thursday Murder Club novel of 2027 and We Chase Shadows (the second Wheeler book) both confirmed for release around the same period.
Start with We Solve Murders (2024), which introduces Amy, Steve and Rosie and sets up the trio's dynamic. We Chase Shadows (2026) continues directly from there, sending the team further afield. No prior familiarity with the Thursday Murder Club is needed — the two series share no characters or continuity, only Osman's voice and plotting style.
Two as of 2026: We Solve Murders (2024) and We Chase Shadows (2026), with the series continuing.
No. We Solve Murders is a separate Richard Osman series with a different cast (Amy and Steve Wheeler, and novelist Rosie D'Antonio) and no shared continuity with the Thursday Murder Club.
