Brian Freeman

Brian Freeman is an American author of psychological suspense thrillers, best known for his long-running Jonathan Stride series, following a Duluth, Minnesota homicide detective across twelve novels since his 2005 debut, Immoral, which won the Macavity Award for Best First Novel. He has built several other series around the same Great Lakes and Pacific Northwest settings — San Francisco's Frost Easton trilogy, the Cab Bolton novels, and the Shelby Lake books — alongside a run of atmospheric standalone thrillers, all marked by deep psychological character work as much as plot. In 2019, Freeman was chosen by Putnam and the Robert Ludlum estate as the writer to carry the Jason Bourne series forward, and he has since written eight Bourne novels, continuing the amnesiac assassin's story that Ludlum began in 1980 and that Eric Van Lustbader continued for over a decade after Ludlum's death. New readers can start with Immoral for Freeman's own signature Stride series, or with any of his Bourne novels, which are written to work as standalone entries for readers unfamiliar with the earlier books. Freeman's thrillers have been published in 46 countries and 24 languages, and he continues to publish new entries in both his own series and the Bourne franchise on an annual schedule.
