Graham McNeill is a Scottish author born in Glasgow who trained in architecture and building surveying before joining Games Workshop as a games designer in 2000, working on codexes for the Tau, Necrons, Space Marines and other factions. He left the company in 2006 to write full-time for Black Library and became one of the imprint's most successful novelists, best known for the Ultramarines series starring Captain Uriel Ventris (beginning with Nightbringer) and for his major Horus Heresy contributions, including False Gods, the second book in the entire saga, and the New York Times-bestselling A Thousand Sons. A reader new to his work has two natural entry points: Nightbringer for a self-contained Space Marine adventure series, or False Gods and A Thousand Sons for two of the Horus Heresy's most important early chapters. McNeill's background in game design gives his battle sequences and faction politics a strong technical grounding, and he remains one of the most widely read authors in Warhammer fiction. There is no film or television adaptation of his novels; he continues to write across the Horus Heresy and wider Black Library catalogue.
