Larry Dixon

Larry Dixon has written 5 books across 2 series. Start with The SERRAted Edge.

Larry Dixon is an American author and illustrator, and the husband and frequent co-writer of fantasy author Mercedes Lackey, with whom he has collaborated on multiple series set within and alongside her Valdemar mega-series. Their best-known joint project is the Mage Wars trilogy (also known as the Mage Wars Gryphon books), a Valdemar-adjacent series exploring the deep history of the Mage Wars that shaped Valdemar's world long before the events of Lackey's core novels, following gryphon characters and their allies through a large-scale magical conflict. Dixon began his career as an illustrator before moving into co-authorship, and his visual-arts background is often credited with informing the vivid, richly detailed creature and setting descriptions in the books he and Lackey have written together. Beyond Mage Wars, the couple has collaborated on other Valdemar-related projects and shares a long-standing personal interest in falconry and birds of prey, which recurs as a thematic element across much of their joint fiction, including the gryphon-centered focus of Mage Wars itself. Dixon's work with Lackey spans several decades of the Valdemar franchise's development, making him one of the most consistent collaborators across her extensive shared-universe output.
