Steve Hamilton is an American crime novelist, an Edgar Award winner best known for his own Alex McKnight mystery series set in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, who partnered with Janet Evanovich to co-write The Bounty, an installment in her Fox and O'Hare series. Fox and O'Hare pairs Nicolas Fox, a world-class con artist the FBI can never quite convict, with Kate O'Hare, the special agent who spent years chasing him before finally recruiting him to use his skills against bigger criminals, in a run of globe-trotting caper thrillers built around elaborate heists and stings. Hamilton joined the series after novelist Lee Goldberg had co-written the first five books and two prequel novellas, and after Evanovich's son Peter Evanovich had taken over for The Big Kahuna, continuing the series' pattern of rotating co-authors across its later volumes. Hamilton's own crime fiction is known for a colder, more grounded, character-driven tone than the comedic caper register of Fox and O'Hare, making his contribution to the series a departure from his usual solo work, which draws heavily on the isolation and harsh landscape of the Upper Peninsula setting he returns to across his Alex McKnight novels. His involvement brought an established, award-winning crime novelist's plotting discipline to a series otherwise built primarily around comic chemistry and set-piece heists.
