The Bride Quartet follows four lifelong best friends — practically sisters since childhood — who run Vows, a full-service wedding-planning business based out of a converted Greenwich, Connecticut mansion. Each woman handles a different piece of the business: Mac shoots the photography, Emma designs the flowers, Laurel bakes the cakes, and Parker runs the whole operation with military precision. Vision in White pairs analytical, camera-shy Mackensie "Mac" Elliot with Carter Maguire, the rumpled high-school English teacher she meets at a wedding gone sideways, and who turns out to be exactly steady enough to handle her chaos. Bed of Roses turns to hopeless-romantic florist Emmaline, who has been quietly in love with Jack Cooke — Parker's brother's best friend and a fixture of the group since college — for years without either of them admitting it. Savor the Moment follows Laurel, the group's sharp-tongued baker, as her old crush on Del Brown, Parker's older brother, finally boils over. Happy Ever After closes the quartet with Parker herself, the friend who plans everyone else's happiness while burying her own grief over her parents' deaths, and her cautiously growing relationship with limo driver and mechanic Malcolm Kavanaugh.

Each book centers on a real wedding Vows is planning, giving Roberts a built-in structure — venue walk-throughs, cake tastings, dress fittings — to move the friendship-first plot along, while the four women's business and friendship form the true spine connecting all four romances.
