The order the books were released — the default way to read the series.
The Children of D'Hara is a five-part novella series picking up immediately after Warheart, as Richard and Kahlan try to build the golden age of peace they promised the D'Haran Empire. That peace is broken by the Glee, an interdimensional race of amphibian hunters who can possess human bodies and vanish at will, and who fear magic enough that they target Richard specifically as the greatest threat to their invasion. The stakes sharpen when Kahlan learns she is pregnant with Richard's twins, giving the Glee's hunt a bloodline to chase and giving Richard and Kahlan a reason beyond the empire itself to win.
Published as five shorter, faster-paced novellas rather than doorstop novels, the series runs in parallel with the Nicci Chronicles, covering the same post-Warheart period from Richard and Kahlan's side of events rather than Nicci's. It was Terry Goodkind's last work: he died in September 2020, shortly after Into Darkness closed out the fifth and final novella, and Tor collected all five into a single omnibus volume the following year.
Read Warheart (Richard and Kahlan #4) first -- the series opens in its immediate aftermath and assumes you know how that book ends. Then read the five novellas in publication order: The Scribbly Man, Hateful Things, Wasteland, Witch's Oath and Into Darkness. They form one continuous story told in short installments rather than five self-contained adventures, so reading them back-to-back works better than spacing them out. The 2021 Children of D'Hara omnibus collects all five in one volume if you'd rather read it that way than track down the individual novellas.
