About the Crimson Lake series

Ted Conkaffey is a disgraced former detective, acquitted of a child abduction charge that ruined his career and marriage but never quite convinced the public of his innocence; he retreats to the swampy Queensland town of Crimson Lake, where he's taken on by private investigator Amanda Pharrell -- herself a convicted killer released from prison. Candice Fox's trilogy pairs these two damaged, publicly reviled investigators against a backdrop of tropical menace: Crimson Lake (2017) has them searching for a missing true-crime author, Redemption Point (2018) tangles Ted deeper into local suspicion after another crime hits close to home, and Gone by Midnight (2019) closes the trilogy with a child's disappearance from a hotel room.

The series continues the interest in morally compromised protagonists that Fox established with her earlier Archer and Bennett trilogy, and predates her James Patterson collaborations on Detective Harriet Blue and other series.
