About the Princess series

Tess has spent her life believing she's the princess of Costenopolie -- until her parents reveal that she was bought off the streets as a child and raised as a decoy to protect the real princess, hidden away in a nunnery for fear of assassins. With foreign soldiers occupying the palace and the truth about her identity now a weapon anyone could use against her, Tess flees into the streets, discovering along the way that she has real magical ability no one, including her, ever suspected. Teaming up with Duncan, a card-cheat she meets in a tavern, and pursued by Captain Jeck, Tess has to find the real princess, expose the powers actually running the kingdom from behind its thrones, and decide who she is once the throne she thought was hers turns out never to have been.
