Evan Ryder is Eric Van Lustbader's most recent series creation: a highly trained intelligence field operative navigating a modern landscape of private-sector spycraft, great-power rivalry and rapidly weaponized technology. The Nemesis Manifesto (2020) launches the series with Ryder tracking a shadowy figure from her own past whose reach extends deep into government and organized crime, establishing her partnership with fellow operative Ben Butler and the series' recurring interest in the blurred line between state intelligence and private security contracting. Subsequent entries -- The Kobalt Dossier, Omega Rules, The Quantum Solution and White Wolf -- escalate the stakes through Russian intelligence operations, a battle over weaponized quantum computing that threatens to upend the balance between Washington and Moscow, and a communications breakthrough capable of rendering modern encryption obsolete.

Written well into Van Lustbader's career -- after decades on Nicholas Linnear, the Bourne continuation novels and Jack McClure -- Evan Ryder shows him working in a more explicitly 21st-century register: cyberwarfare, quantum technology and private intelligence firms replace the Cold War tradecraft of his earlier work, while his usual density of betrayal, tradecraft detail and morally compromised institutions carries over intact.
