About the Clifton Forge series

Clifton Forge is Devney Perry's grittier spinoff from Jamison Valley, trading the valley's ranches and coffee shops for a motorcycle-club-turned-legitimate-garage in a Montana town with a violent history it's trying to outrun. Steel King, the opener, pairs a newspaper owner determined to expose the club's founder as a killer with the very man she's investigating, kicking off a run of romantic suspense plots layered under the small-town romance: old crimes resurfacing, dangerous pasts catching up, and found family forged in something rougher than friendship.

The six books follow the men (and eventually women) who used to ride with the Tin Gypsy MC and now run the Clifton Forge Garage, restoring cars instead of running the criminal enterprise the club once was. Each entry pairs one of them with a woman who has her own reason to be wary, an ex she's hiding from, a secret that could blow up both their lives, and the suspense plot escalates as the series progresses toward Fallen Jester and Tin Queen, which pull the earlier books' loose threads together. It's darker and higher-stakes than Perry's contemporary small-town series, closer to Dani Wyatt or Devney's own tonal cousin Lark Cove but with real danger attached.

Steel King was originally published in 2019 as Gypsy King under the series name Tin Gypsy; both book and series were retitled in 2021 as part of a rebrand, with the story content unchanged.

How to read this series

Publication order, starting with Steel King (2019, originally titled Gypsy King). The series is billed as a spinoff you can read without having finished Jamison Valley first, but it shares at least one direct sibling connection (Steel King's hero is the brother of a Jamison Valley hero), so Jamison Valley readers will catch extra context. Within Clifton Forge itself, read in publication order: the suspense plot threads about the club's past build across the series and pay off more clearly in Fallen Jester and Tin Queen, the final two books.

A naming note: older listings and covers use the original series title Tin Gypsy and book 1's original title Gypsy King — these are the same books as Clifton Forge and Steel King under the 2021 rebrand, not a different or additional entry.
