About the Night Tales series

Night Tales is a loosely connected romantic-suspense quintet unified by nighttime settings and danger rather than a single family or cast: each book pairs a woman caught up in a crime or threat with a man who moves through the dark professionally, whether as a cop, a vigilante, or a detective. Night Shift centers on late-night radio host Cilla O'Roarke, who becomes the target of an obsessed caller while falling for the police lieutenant investigating the threats. Night Shadow follows a masked vigilante and the ambitious assistant district attorney determined to catch him, unaware he's the same man she's falling for by day. Nightshade turns to an undercover cop drawn into danger alongside a woman connected to his case, while Night Smoke pairs an arson investigator with a woman whose family business becomes the target of a firebug. Night Shield, published years after the first four, closes the loose series with a vice cop and the woman he's assigned to protect.

Unlike Roberts's tightly plotted family trilogies, Night Tales books share mood and genre more than continuity — there's no single mystery or family connecting all five, though later editions and omnibus collections group them together as a recognizable set for readers who want her early romantic-suspense work in one place.
