About the Guiness Gang series

Early in her career, before writing as Lisa Gardner, the author published category romantic suspense as Alicia Scott, and the five-book Guiness Gang series follows members of the Guiness family through interconnected small-town romantic-suspense plots. At the Midnight Hour opens the series and was later adapted into a CBS television film; the following four books -- Hiding Jessica, The Quiet One, The One Worth Waiting For and The One Who Almost Got Away -- continue through the extended Guiness family circle, each pairing a family member with a new love interest against a backdrop of danger, secrets and small-town suspicion.

Written for Silhouette Intimate Moments across 1995 and 1996, the series shows an early version of the trauma-and-suspense instincts the author would later bring to D.D. Warren and Frankie Elkin as Lisa Gardner, scaled down to the shorter category-romance format and paired with a guaranteed happy ending rather than the darker, more procedural tone of her later crime fiction.

How to read this series

Publication order, starting with At the Midnight Hour (1995). The extended Guiness family recurs across all five books with the romantic focus moving to a different member each time, so reading in order lets the family's connections build naturally, though each book's central romance and suspense plot resolves on its own.
