About the Goosebumps HorrorLand series

Goosebumps HorrorLand, launched in 2008, is R.L. Stine's second relaunch of his signature brand, and its biggest structural change: for the first time, the numbered Goosebumps books share a single setting and an overarching mystery. HorrorLand is a garish, unsettling theme park that keeps luring different groups of kids through its gates with free tickets -- and each book follows a new set of visitors who discover, in the middle of their own standalone monster story, that the park's jokey mascots and rides are hiding something genuinely dangerous.

Every book still works as its own self-contained scare -- evil ventriloquist dummies, mummies, mutant hamsters, a haunted amusement park ride -- but small clues about who really runs HorrorLand and why it keeps summoning children accumulate across the run, paying off in the climactic Wizard of Ooze and Slappy New Year!. It's the first time the Goosebumps format let a single thread run underneath the whole series rather than resetting completely with each book, giving longtime readers something to piece together alongside the scare-of-the-week plots.

Stine returned to HorrorLand's cast and setting once more with a six-book Hall of Horrors continuation (2011-2012), tracked separately from this numbered nineteen-book main line.

How to read this series

Read Goosebumps HorrorLand in publication order (used here), Revenge of the Living Dummy (2008) through The Horror at Chiller House (2011) -- each book is a standalone monster story with a new cast of kids, but the HorrorLand theme-park mystery threads through the whole run and pays off more if read in order.

This entry covers the numbered nineteen-book main line only. R.L. Stine continued the same setting and cast conceit in a six-book Hall of Horrors continuation (2011-2012, e.g. Claws!, Don't Scream!), which is a distinct sub-line not counted here. HorrorLand followed Goosebumps Series 2000 (1997-99) and preceded Goosebumps Most Wanted (2012-16) in the brand's history.
