About the Pike Logan series

Pike Logan is a former Delta Force operator running Taskforce, a deniable, off-the-books unit of the U.S. government empowered to hunt terrorists outside the normal chain of command and the rules that constrain conventional forces. Working alongside his partner (and eventual wife) Jennifer Cahill, a brilliant but green case officer who keeps Pike's more violent instincts in check, Logan chases plots that range from Islamist terror cells and dirty bombs to Russian and Chinese state operations and domestic extremism. Brad Taylor is a 21-year Army Special Forces veteran who commanded a Delta-type unit, and the series is built on the same tactical and organizational authenticity that made his nonfiction commentary on real-world counterterrorism widely read.

Beyond the pure action, the series pays close attention to the legal and moral gray areas Taskforce operates in — Pike is repeatedly forced to weigh mission success against oversight, and the Pike/Jennifer relationship gives the books a steadier emotional core than many pure shoot-em-up military thrillers. With a new full novel every January (more recently shifting to spring) since 2011, plus a run of digital-only Taskforce short stories filling in side characters and gaps between books, it's a strong pick for readers who want their special-ops thrillers procedurally grounded and tied together by a real long-running partnership.

How to read this series

Publication order, starting with One Rough Man (2011). Pike and Jennifer's partnership, Taskforce's standing with its government oversight board, and several running antagonists develop across the numbered novels, so reading in order pays off even though most individual missions resolve within their own book.

The eBook-only Taskforce short stories (The Callsign, Gut Instinct, Black Flag, The Dig, The Recruit, The Target, The Infiltrator, The Ruins, Exit Fee, The Honeymoon Heist) are optional side missions that slot in around the numbered novels; they're fun extras for series completists but skippable for anyone who just wants the main Pike Logan arc.
