Ricky Ricotta is a small, bullied mouse who accidentally befriends a giant Mighty Robot after freeing it from the control of a mad scientist -- and the two become inseparable best friends, teaming up to defend their city from a parade of increasingly ridiculous alien invaders. Each book pits Ricky and his Robot against a new villain arriving from a different planet in order outward from the sun (Mercury's Mutant Mosquitoes, Venus's Voodoo Vultures, and onward to Pluto), giving the series a simple, satisfying structure young readers can predict and look forward to.

Written and illustrated by Dav Pilkey before Dog Man and after Captain Underpants had already made him a household name, Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot is aimed at a slightly younger readership than either of those series -- a true early-reader graphic novel hybrid, with large type, simple sentences, and comic-panel action sequences that make it a common on-ramp to Pilkey's more famous work for kids not quite ready for Captain Underpants' longer chapters.
