Seanan McGuire

Seanan McGuire is a prolific American author of urban fantasy and speculative fiction, best known for the long-running October Daye series, which follows a half-fae, half-human private investigator navigating the hidden Faerie courts of San Francisco. Beginning with Rosemary and Rue in 2009, the series has become one of contemporary urban fantasy's most consistent long-runners, building an intricate, folklore-grounded magic system and a large recurring cast across close to twenty books.

McGuire is exceptionally prolific even by genre-fiction standards, also writing horror-tinged science fiction as Mira Grant (the Newsflesh trilogy), the InCryptid series about a family of monster-hunting cryptozoologists, and the Wayward Children novella series, whose opening volume, Every Heart a Doorway, won both the Hugo and Nebula Awards. She has been nominated for and won numerous major genre awards across nearly every series she writes, an unusually broad footprint for one author.

A new reader wanting the flagship series should start with Rosemary and Rue; a reader wanting a shorter, self-contained entry point should try Every Heart a Doorway instead.
