Sign of Seven is set in the small town of Hawkins Hollow, Maryland, where three childhood best friends performed a ritual on their tenth birthday that accidentally released an ancient demon, Pestilence, bound in the woods for centuries. Ever since, the demon rises every seven years for seven days, turning the town violent and unrecognizable, and the three men — now adults — carry a shared destiny to finally destroy it for good. Blood Brothers follows Caleb Hawkins, the most driven of the three, as the demon's latest cycle approaches and he reconnects with Quinn Black, a paranormal writer investigating the town's dark history who turns out to be tied to the prophecy herself. The Hollow turns to Fox O'Dell, the group's wry lawyer, and his slow-building relationship with childhood friend Layla Grant, another woman marked by the same fate. The Pagan Stone completes the trio with Gage Turner, the restless gambler of the three, and Cybil Kinski, the last of the three women destined to stand beside them, as all six face the demon's final, most dangerous return.

The demon's countdown structures the whole trilogy: each book takes place during the tense build-up to and eruption of one of the "Seven" cycles, with the true nature of the curse, and how to end it permanently, only becoming clear once all three couples are united for the final confrontation.

How to read this series

Read in publication order — Blood Brothers, The Hollow, The Pagan Stone — the three books follow one continuous countdown to the demon Pestilence's final, most dangerous return, and each installment adds a piece to solving how to destroy it permanently. The three men (Caleb, Fox, Gage) and the three women fated to stand with them are introduced gradually across the trilogy, so reading in order is important both for the mystery and for keeping the ensemble cast straight.
