The order the books were released — the default way to read the series.
Ty Hauck is a former Greenwich, Connecticut police detective turned private investigator who keeps getting pulled into conspiracies involving the wealthy and powerful people his affluent hometown protects. Andrew Gross's four-book series opens with The Dark Tide (2008), in which a hedge-fund collapse and a series of murders draw Hauck into the world of high finance and organised crime; Don't Look Twice (2009) and Reckless (2010) continue the pattern of ordinary lives colliding with corruption among the rich, while One Mile Under (2015) sends Hauck to Colorado to investigate his niece's suspicious death amid a fracking dispute.
The series was Gross's first solo work after co-writing several Women's Murder Club novels and standalones with James Patterson, and it set the template for his later solo career: fast-paced thrillers that pit decent, everyday people against systems -- financial, legal, corporate -- that are far bigger and dirtier than they first appear.
Four: The Dark Tide (2008), Don't Look Twice (2009), Reckless (2010) and One Mile Under (2015).
No. Ty Hauck is Gross's own solo creation, unrelated to the Women's Murder Club or other novels he co-wrote with James Patterson.
No new Ty Hauck novel has been published since One Mile Under in 2015, and none was announced before Andrew Gross's death in April 2025.
Each case is self-contained, but Hauck's family and relationship arcs develop across the series, so publication order is recommended.
