About the Camel Club series

The Camel Club is an unofficial team of Washington D.C. outsiders — a group of self-appointed watchdogs led by the enigmatic Oliver Stone (a former top-secret government assassin now living as a recluse across from the White House) who gather to investigate conspiracies the official system won't touch. Around Stone, David Baldacci assembles a memorable ensemble: Secret Service agent Alex Ford, tech specialist Caleb Shaw, librarian Milton Farb, and later Secret Service agent Annabelle Conroy, each bringing skills the group needs when a case runs into government cover-ups, assassination plots and conspiracies reaching into the highest levels of Washington power.

Launched in 2005, the series pairs Baldacci's trademark Beltway-insider plotting with a genuine found-family dynamic among its unlikely investigators, and Stone's mysterious past as a disavowed government operative gives the series a running mystery that deepens across its five novels. It sits squarely alongside Baldacci's other Washington-set political thrillers, and the character makes a later crossover appearance in the Will Robie series. Readers who enjoy conspiracy-driven thrillers with a tight ensemble cast and a strong sense of place in D.C.'s corridors of power are the natural audience.

How to read this series

Publication order, starting with The Camel Club (2005). The series builds Oliver Stone's hidden past and the team's relationships gradually across all five books, so reading in order is strongly recommended rather than optional.

A sixth entry, the novella Bullseye (2014), is a direct crossover with Baldacci's Will Robie series — Robie and Oliver Stone are caught together in a bank heist — and is catalogued on this site under Will Robie (where it also carries an ordinal), rather than duplicated here. Read it after Hell's Corner and alongside the early Will Robie books for the fullest context, but it isn't required to follow the main Camel Club arc.
