Wyman Ford is a former CIA operative turned Benedictine monk turned freelance investigator -- a background Douglas Preston uses to send him after conspiracies that mix hard science with fringe belief: a dinosaur fossil that could upend evolutionary theory, an apparent religious miracle with a scientific explanation underneath, a NASA mission gone wrong, an AI project spiraling out of control.
