About the Dr. Anya Crichton series

Anya Crichton is a forensic physician and pathologist working in Sydney, splitting her time between the morgue and live patients as one of the few doctors qualified to examine both the living and the dead for legal evidence. Kathryn Fox, herself a doctor before turning to fiction, built the series on that dual expertise: Malicious Intent (2004) introduces Anya investigating a string of deaths staged to look like suicide, while Without Consent (2006) and Skin and Bone (2007) send her deeper into cases involving sexual assault, exploitation and the forensic evidence such crimes leave behind. The novels are notable for treating forensic procedure -- autopsy findings, toxicology, the specifics of how injuries and evidence actually read in a courtroom -- with a rigor that reflects Fox's own medical background, in the tradition of Kathy Reichs and Patricia Cornwell.

Later entries -- Blood Born (2009), Death Mask (2010), Cold Grave (2012) and Fatal Impact (2014) -- keep Anya moving between crime labs, courtrooms and increasingly personal danger, as her forensic work repeatedly puts her in the path of the killers she helps convict. The series made Fox one of Australia's best-known medical-thriller writers and is currently in development as a television series titled Crichton.
