Karen Marie Moning's first major series since Fever trades Dublin's Fae-haunted streets for a Southern Gothic mansion. In The House at Watch Hill, Zo Grey inherits a fortune and a sprawling, secretive estate in Divinity, Louisiana -- on the condition that she lives in the house alone for three years before either becomes truly hers. The house does not want her to leave, the town keeps its own version of events close, and Zo starts to realize that the inheritance itself might be less a gift than a trap generations in the making.

This is Moning writing atmosphere-first suspense: a decaying, secret-filled house as a character in its own right, a heroine isolated on purpose, and a slow accumulation of dread rather than the overt urban fantasy of Fever. Announced as a trilogy, it is designed to escalate sharply across its three volumes -- Moning has described the opening book as scene-setting for the two much bigger installments still to come.
