About the Aurelia Ryder series

The Aurelia Ryder series is another Kate Daniels universe spinoff, centered on a member of the Ryder family -- one of the setting's powerful magical bloodlines -- navigating the same post-Shift world of shapeshifters, ancient magic, and political houses that defines the main series. Blood Heir opens the spinoff with Julie Olsen, Kate's own adopted daughter, now grown and grappling with a new, dangerous magical inheritance of her own, set some time after the events of the main series' conclusion.

Ilona Andrews (the husband-and-wife team of Ilona and Andrew Gordon) uses this spinoff to continue the Kate Daniels world's story past its main series' ending, following the next generation rather than Kate herself, with the same detailed magic system and hard-edged Atlanta setting.

Only one novel has been published so far; the series is understood to be ongoing, with further installments planned but not yet released as of 2026.

Read Kate Daniels first, all the way through. Blood Heir follows Julie Olsen, Kate's adopted daughter, after the events of the main series' finale (Magic Triumphs) and will spoil major developments if read out of order.
